Our Story
It started with a simple love for the night sky.
Our founder, Gabrielle, believed astronomy shouldn't be locked up in labs or made complicated. It should be simple, shared, and for everyone — whether you know what a nebula is or just think the stars are pretty. In 2021, on an island famous for its sunsets, she noticed almost no one was looking up — and set out to change that.
Her relationship with the night sky started years earlier. As an undergraduate, she founded the first astronomy club at Xiamen University Malaysia, turning a personal fascination into a community of stargazers long before it was ever a business. She went on to travel through China and across Southeast Asia to study how the world's leading stargazing destinations design their guest experience, from the science of what they show people to the storytelling of how they show it. That research, combined with hundreds of hours under Bali's own skies, shaped the sessions Astronomy Bali runs today — an experiment in finding the island's darkest, clearest patches of sky, built from more than 100 personally scouted locations across Bali, testing sightlines, weather patterns, and light pollution one site at a time.
As we hosted our first few stargazing nights, word spread, and our community grew. New faces joined in, each with their own reasons to be curious about what lies above. What started as a small group of sky enthusiasts has since grown into a community that's still evolving, bringing people together to enjoy the night sky in a relaxed and welcoming way.
At Astronomy Bali, we offer more than stargazing. Through a holistic approach, we've created a gateway to the universe — where astronomy meets adventure. From astrotourism and immersive sky-watching to hands-on workshops, our programs foster a deeper connection with the stars. Here, we don't just observe the night sky; we create experiences that inspire a sense of wonder and belonging in the universe.

Gabrielle Tania
Founder
Gabrielle holds a master's degree in Innovation and Enterprise Management from Zhejiang University in China, bringing formal training in venture-building and strategy to how Astronomy Bali is run and scaled — proof that behind the wonder is a founder who takes the business of building something real just as seriously as the science of the stars.
Donny Rahadian
Co-Founder and Educator
Donny is an avid astronomy enthusiast who finds joy in brewing a great cup of coffee while gazing at the night sky. A skilled stargazer, he has earned recognition in several astronomy competitions, showcasing his deep knowledge and passion for the cosmos. If you’re stargazing with him, expect a freshly brewed cup in hand!
Raihan Izzan Yafityan
Astrophotographer and Educator
Raihan is a dedicated astrophotographer who mastered his craft through hands-on practice under the night sky. He has worked with Bosscha Observatory on an asteroid astrophoto project, bringing a technical eye sharpened by real observational work to everything he shoots. With a passion for storytelling and a naturally fun, lighthearted personality, he transforms celestial moments into images that inspire wonder.
